چکیده

BONE marrow transplantation (BMT) is an effective strategy to induce tolerance across xenogeneic barriers.l This approach has been used in the hamster-to-rat BMT model.2 However, all animals suffered from graft-vshost disease (GVHD). Although xenogeneic GVHD has been observed in other studies, it is not yet well characterized.3 Because xenograft rejection is primarily mediated by humoral mechanisms, we tested the hypothesis that, unlike allogeneic GVHD in which cellular mechanisms predominate, xenogeneic GVHD could also be humorally mediated.

BONE marrow transplantation (BMTx) following lethal irradiation is an established modality to induce donorspecific tolerance in the rat to mouse xenogeneic combination. 1 The induction of donor-specific tolerance in this model is accompanied by a distinct absence of graft-versushost disease (GVHD). The latter outcome, however, is not witnessed when BMTx is performed in hamster to rat strain com...

Cross-species bone marrow transplantation: evidence for tolerance induction, stem cell engraftment, and maturation of T lymphocytes in a xenogeneic stromal environment (rat----mouse)

Transplantation of untreated F344 rat bone marrow into irradiated B10 mouse recipients (non-TCD F344----B10) to produce fully xenogeneic chimeras resulted in stable xenogeneic lymphoid chimerism, ranging from 82% to 97% rat. Survival of animals was excellent, without evidence for GVH disease. The specificity of tolerance which resulted was highly donor-specific; MHC disparate third party mouse ...

Bone Marrow Transplantation in Thalassemia (Part 2)

During the last two decades conventional therapy has improved the prognosis of thalassemia. However, despite such improvement it still remains a progressive disease with treatment-related complications such as hepatitis, liver fibrosis, and cardiac disease. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) can prevent or delay progression of the aforementioned complications. The importance of clinical research...

Progressive Bronchiectasis as a Manifestation of Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease Following Bone Marrow Transplantation

We describe a case of progressive bronchiectasis resulting in cystic bronchiectasis with regions of mucoid impaction as a manifestation of chronic graft versus host disease as a late complication of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.
